Have you ever considered the impact of the plants in your own backyard on the surrounding nature? Join Cathy Kavassalis, passionate gardener and conservationist, to learn about plants that benefit our local biodiversity. You’ll learn about the benefits of native plants and the consequences of introducing non-native plants, particularly in our warming climate. Get inspired as we explore how we can makes better choices in our yards to help safeguard nature.

Cathy Kavassalis is a passionate gardener and conservationist. A scientist, educator, and inspirational speaker, Cathy endeavors to stimulate interest and awe in the living world. She is the co-founder of the Coalition for Invasive Plant Regulation, a member of the Halton Master Gardeners group, a past president of the Oakville Horticultural Society, and a former member of the Board of Directors for the Royal Botanical Garden. Cathy is working to remove invasive plants and improve the health of the land in her care in Seguin, Ontario.

Help track biodiversity in London by participating in the City Nature Challenge!

The CNC is an international community science event in which regions compete to make the most observations of nature. Community science data is useful for tracking trends in biodiversity and can inform local conservation management and land use planning. Participating in the CNC is a way for you to contribute to protecting wildlife and habitat in London!

From April 26th to 29th, make observations of wild plants, animals and fungi and upload the photos or sounds into iNaturalist.
